Initiated by József Potsa, the building was constructed in 1893 from private and public donations, as well as with the aid of the savings bank. Built in the Renaissance Revival style with hard stone footing, the edifice was based on the plans of Keresztély Kertsch, architect from Brașov. On its ground floor there were workrooms, the director’s apartment, a kitchen and storage rooms, on the upper floor there were dormitories for 60 children, the director’s office and a prayer hall. Its arched, wrought-iron gate made of rubble was demolished because of the serpentine constructed concurrently with the overpass. In the interwar period it was home to the Romanian private boys’ school, between 1940-1944 the city police, and later the city hospital was located here; today it is home to the department of pulmonology.
