The Former Seat of the County Council

The Headquarters was built in 1832 at the time of László Béldi, head of administration, from public funds provided by the gentry of Háromszék county, and with the community work of soldiers and serfs. The Defence Committee of Háromszék was located here during the Hungarian Revolution of 1848; the memorable meeting was held in its assembly room in November 1848 when Áron Gábor undertook the production of cannons in two weeks’ time for the defence struggle of Háromszék. From 1876 the building was the seat of the County Council. In the last decade of the 19th century, when József Potsa was the főispán, a quasi-lord-lieutenant of the county, two wings were added to the edifice, and the assembly room (today Gábor Áron Hall) was renovated. Even after World War I, the building functioned as the headquarters of the respective territorial administration. From 1974 it has been the home to the Bod Péter County Library.
