The Textile Factory

Its predecessor, the local Cottage Industry Association, was established in 1863 by the főispán József Potsa, the quasi-lord-lieutenant of the county. In 1879 a new act ordered the establishment of the first Székely weaving factory. The new, 54 metres long multi-storey building, the predecessor of the current office block, was constructed in 1892 on today's factory grounds. From 1901 the factory was rented, then, from 1904, owned by a Viennese businessman, who changed the name to "Henrik Klinger's First Székely Weaving Factory". In 1907 a new office building and workrooms were constructed, the weaving and sewing industries were also set up. In 1938, due to changes in the ownership, the factory got a new name: Saint George Textile Company Ltd. The factory was extended with departments of: carding, painting, weaving and sample printing, an oilcloth section, an engineering room, as well as a new office building. During World War II, it functioned as a defence plant. After the nationalization in 1948, it was significantly expanded. First, it was called Dózsa György Textile Factory, then, from 1967, Olt Textile Company. After 1989, it was privatized by the new Belgian owners.
